The Road Development Corporation (RDC) has been tasked with expanding the emergency department (ER) of Hulhumalé Hospital. The agreement, worth MVR 4.9 million, was signed by RDC’s Managing Director, Ali Zuhair, and representatives of the Malé Group of Hospitals at a ceremony held at Hulhumalé Hospital.
The project aims to address the hospital’s limited capacity, increasing the ER beds from seven to 21. The work is expected to be completed within two months. According to Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq, CEO of Dharumavantha Hospital, preparations are already underway, with the ER temporarily relocated near the hospital's main entrance.
The expansion involves merging the current ER with the space formerly used for dental services. This will double the size of the ER, allowing for additional facilities, including a recess unit and air-conditioning systems.
While construction is ongoing, patients may experience some inconvenience due to space constraints. Abdul Razzaq urged the public to cooperate, emphasising the importance of completing the project efficiently to enhance emergency healthcare services in Hulhumalé.
