China’s Sinohydro has been contracted to develop 1,000 housing units in B. Eydhafushi.
The agreement was signed between the Maldivian Government, represented by Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr Abdullah Muththalib, and China’s Sinohydro at a ceremony held at President’s Office on Saturday.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu attended a signing ceremony.
The project will include twelve 15-storey towers, featuring 336 three-bedroom and 772 two-bedroom flats. These housing units aim to support residents and workers in Eydhafushi and nearby resorts, making the island a key development hub.
This initiative is part of the government’s "Dhiveheenge Raajje" manifesto, which focuses on providing affordable housing and homeownership opportunities, especially for those in the tourism sector.
Eydhafushi is a priority location in the government’s plan to develop 40,000 housing units nationwide, as highlighted by President Dr Muizzu during his visit to the island earlier this year.
