President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has officially launched the Maldives’ 'National Development Plan,' a visionary 20-year roadmap aimed at steering the country toward sustainable development and long-term prosperity.

This comprehensive plan is set to address key national issues and lay the groundwork for a future that aligns with global advancements, particularly in technology and the digital economy.

In his speech at the inauguration, President Dr Muizzu emphasized the importance of public involvement, calling for contributions from all sectors of society, including political parties. He urged everyone to set aside partisan interests in order to unite for the common goal of shaping the nation’s future, stating, “We are about to establish the vision for the future generation. This is not political.”

The President also acknowledged the valuable support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Australian government in bringing the plan to fruition.

A key focus of the development plan is to incorporate modern technological advancements, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), into the country's growth strategy. President Dr Muizzu stressed that the Maldives must not only keep pace with these innovations but actively utilize them to enhance the nation's digital economy. "We must always treat sacrificing for our nation as a matter of pride," he said, underlining the importance of national progress in the face of global change.

The government aims to finalize the National Development Plan within the next year, and to further solidify its importance, the plan will be backed by amendments to the Maldives’ Constitution, ensuring its long-term sustainability and effectiveness in achieving the country’s development goals.
