The Airport Operations Division of the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) held a meeting to discuss the challenges facing the operations of the Velana International Airport (VIA).

The winter season or late November and December is the peak season for tourists from Europe in the Maldives. VIA services are very busy during that season.

MACL CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohammed, Deputy Managing Director Mujtaba Lateef and senior officials of the company attended the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, Shareef said MACL is also working on introducing a new baggage handling system as it prepares for the winter season.

The new baggage handling system will speed up the operations of the airport and improve the quality of service provided to passengers, Shareef said.

In addition, employees and management will continue to work together in line with the company's goals, prioritizing equipment upgrades and service improvements, Shareef said.

Shareef said the company has decided to hold further such discussions with its shareholders in the future.

The VIA is preparing for the peak tourist season by expanding the existing terminal area and addressing the congestion problem, MACL said.
