Ministry of Health has decided to revise the regulations regarding recruitment of doctors.

Speaking during a press conference held at the Ministry on Thursday, Minister Abdulla Ameen noted that changes are being brought to doctor recruitment guidelines in a bid to improve the quality of doctors who are being recruited to serve the Maldivian health sector. As such, the Ministry is set to interview doctors and recruit them with the help of several delegations deployed to various areas by the Ministry.

The Ministry admitted that recruitment of doctors through third parties along with the recruitment policies had resulted in the recruitment of subpar doctors in the past. The Minister also noted that there were difficulties in situations where recruitment had to be done in a urgent manner.

Minister Ameen also highlighted that there were several challenges that the Ministry face due to the lack of nurses and doctors in various islands.
