A man has been arrested for smuggling 60 bullets of drugs into the Maldives.
Zahid Mohammed, 24, a Pakistani national, was arrested in the case.
According to the Criminal Court remand order, Zahid Mohammed had swallowed and smuggled 60 bullets of drugs when he arrived in the Maldives from Pakistan. Zahid however had confessed that he did not know that the bullets contained drugs, adding that some people had intimidated him to do it.
Rajbanshi Chatra Bahadur, 39, a Nepalese national, was also arrested in the case. He was arrested after a bag of drugs was found in his possession. Rajbanshi noted that the bag was handed over to him by a man. He had informed Police of the whereabouts of the bag himself.
The order also states that this is believed to have been an organized act involving a large number of people.
The case has been submitted to the Prosecutor General's Office, which has requested the two men to remain in custody pending trial. However, the Criminal Court remanded them in custody for 20 days.
