An autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death of an infant, who was mothered by a 15 year old.

Maldives Police Service confirmed that they have decided to carry out an autopsy, and added that necessary arrangements are currently underway.

Police had received reports of the death of an infant birthed by a 15 year old last Monday morning around 7:10am. Since the case involves a minor, Police is withholding sensitive information such as the name and island that the girl belongs to.

According to reports, the girl had given birth in the toilet of the house. She was later rushed to the hospital after her condition worsened. Rumors allege that her mother and her lover - living in the same house - had assisted during the delivery.

While Police is currently investigating the case, it is unsure whether the infant was murdered or not.
