Maldives Police Service has stated that they will not hesitate to take action against those who subscribed to channels that sold pornography on Telegram.
Speaking at a press conference at Iskandar Koshi today, Cyber Crime Investigator Azeef Abbas said there is a legal framework for taking action against those who subscribed to channels that circulated pornography.
“We will not hesitate to take necessary action against such persons,” Azeef said.
Azeef said action would also be taken against those who enter such channels and encourage them to identify those who circulate such videos and photos.
Head of Cyber Analysis Chief Inspector of Police Fayaz Ismail told a news conference that the channels that circulated pornography also contained nude scenes and photos of children.
Police have seized 571 Telegram channels containing nude photos and videos, including 43 channels containing child pornography. The channels contain a total of 241,651 photos and 86,618 videos. Police said 34,680 people have subscribed to the channels.
Police said they had earned MVR 2 million by selling nude scenes and photos circulated on the channels.
