Maldives defeated Afghanistan in their opening match of the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) Women's Volleyball Challenge Cup 2024 on Friday night.
Maldives, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan are competing in the CAVA Women's Challenge Cup. The tournament began this evening with Kyrgyzstan beating Tajikistan in straight sets in the evening.
In addition to the opening ceremony of the tournament, the match between Maldives and Afghanistan was held this evening. President of The Volleyball Association of Maldives Mohamed Latheef and Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haidar were present at the opening ceremony. Ali Haider was present.
Maldives defeated Afghanistan 25-19, 25-11 and 25-11 in three sets.
Maldives played well in the first set as well. Fathimath Juzan Zareer showed impressive skill throughout the match. Captain Hawwa Rashidha, Nareema Idris, Aminath Shaha and Aishath Majidha showed brilliance in the first set.
Likewise, Maldives maintained a strong play in the second set, with Afghanistan only able to improve their game after Maldives scored 20 points. The third set was secured a straight win for Maldives.
The Maldives will take on Tajikistan in the second match of the league round tomorrow night.
