Smoking to be banned on the streets of Male’ City

Male’ City Council has decided to ban the smoking on the streets of Male’ City.

Member of the Council, Hussain Shareef confirmed to One Online that the decision was made at a Council meeting last night. He said that the decision was reached by the unanimous vote of all seven members at the meeting.

Councilman Shareef said the decision would take effect six months later and during the lead up, discussions would be held with the Health Ministry and the Maldives Police Service to make some regulations.

While the law has banned smoking at places of public gatherings, those who violate the law are already getting fined.
