Former President Mohamed Nasheed on Sunday stated that the current financial situation should be properly explained to the people.

In a post on X today, the former President said that all political leaders have a great responsibility at the moment and should clarify the financial situation to the people.

“The people should be told in clear terms how the financial situation has reached this point, what is expected to happen next, and what is planned to be done to overcome it,” Nasheed said.

Nasheed’s comments come as the Bank of Maldives, has removed dollar transactions with MVRV cards altogether and reduced the limit of previously issued credit cards to USD 100 today as the amount of foreign exchange available has declined.

Many people are expressing concern over BML's decision.
