The Finance Committee of the Parliament has approved the appointment of former Finance Minister Ahmed Munawwar as the new Governor of the Central Bank of the Maldives.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu nominated Munawwar for the position, submitting his name for approval to the Parliament following the removal of former Governor Ali Hashim.
The committee has obtained information about Munawwar from various institutions during their review. Following their review, the committee also conducted an interview with Munawwar.
After a two-hour interview, Munawwar received more than 70 marks to be appointed to the post. Vice-President of Parliament, Ahmed Nazim moved that he be appointed to the post.
The motion was passed unanimously by the members present at the committee meeting.
The committee will then refer the matter to the Parliament for approval.
