A man smuggling drugs to Haa Alifu Dhidhdhoo has been arrested on a boat going to the island.

Maldives Police Service said that the arrest was made last night during a special operation by Police Intelligence and the Dhidhdhoo Police Station following an intelligence report about a man smuggling drugs on a boat going to Dhidhdhoo from Male’ City.

The suspected arrest last night was 30 years of age.

Police said that when the vessel went to Vashafaru, the suspect was taken into custody and searched to find three pieces of cellophane of suspected drugs.

When the suspect was taken to the Magistrate Court in Haa Alifu Utheemu, he was remanded for ten days.

Dhidhdhoo Police Station is investigating the case further.
