Spokesperson of Elections Commission, Ahmed Akram has revealed that only MDP, MDA and JP submitted their audit reports so far.
Akram revealed the news to One Online through a phone call. The deadline to submit audit reports of political parties is Thursday, however only three have submitted their audit reports so far.
According to the laws and regulations related to political parties, parties should audit their expenses and yearly finances through a auditor approved by the Auditor General, and be submitted to the EC and Auditor General within 90 days of the end of a calendar year.
EC holds the power to fine parties with an amount between MVR 20,000 and MVR 50,000 if a party fails to submit their audit reports within the mentioned deadline. Akram noted that the 90 day deadline is counted without holidays hence the 90 days would be come to a conclusion by tomorrow.
DRP, Adhaalath Party, PPM, MTD, Labour Party and PNC are yet to submit their audit reports.
