Maldives Police Service has revealed that 51 kilos of drugs have been seized from the Iran boat.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohamed Riyaz noted that while 51 kilos of drugs have been confiscated from the boat so far, works were underway to fully search the boat. He added that the drugs were hidden in compartments of the boat underneath an additional layer of fiber.
They added that since the boat had run aground near the reef in Villimale during it's journey to the capital, Home Minister Imran Abdulla had personally visited to see the works regarding the case.
Since the boat had run aground, search for additional drugs are being carried out on the reef. Police and MNDF is active on the case simultaneously.
Seven people have been arrested regarding the case, and a 15 day period has been added to their remand duration.
