Vice President Faisal Naseem has stated that without free press, a nation could not thrive nor become stable.

He made the statement while speaking during the event held to celebrate World Press Freedom Day.

He added that with the work of journalists, human rights of citizens are ensured and that they play a huge role in overcoming the challenges faced by the general public.

Speaking during the event organised by Maldives Media Council (MMC), Vice President Faisal described the responsibilities of MMC as maintaining the freedom of press and ensuring that all media houses were transparent and acting within the boundaries of the law.

In addition to this, VP Faisal requested all journalists to be responsible and remain impartial.
