Supreme Court of the Maldives have supported the order from the High Court to transfer the former Vice President, Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor, currently service a prison sentence, to be transferred to house arrest for medical treatment.
Adeeb is serving a 30-year prison sentece for his involvement in the MMPRC corruption scandal during his time as the Tourism Minister and his involvement in the assassination attempt of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
However, High Court has ruled on 28 January 2019 to transfer him to house arrest due to his recent health issues. The ruling was appealed at the Supreme Court by the state.
While the Supreme Court has supported the High Court decision today, Adeeb is still in prison.
