Three Maldivians have been arrested at a checkpoint in Sri Lanka.
'One Online' has learnt that the three were arrested after being checked at a security checkpoint in Sri Lanka. However, the reason for their arrest was unclear during the time of press.
Speaking to One Online, Director of Communications of Foreign Ministry, Miuvan Mohamed revealed that so far no Maldivians have been arrested in relation to the terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka. He added that no Maldivian has been questioned or interrogated regarding the bomb attacks either.
Miuvan however noted that since a State of Emergency is in effect in Sri Lanka, many households are being checked at random and that it may have involved households in which Maldivians reside.
After Sri Lanka amped up it's security, visa issues with Maldivians have been noted and they are being questioned regarding this, according to Miuvan. Hence, he appealed all Maldivians to make sure their visa had no issues and if it did, to get it resolved at the soonest.
Miuvan also appealed all to remain calm and to be polite at police checkpoints, and asked all Maldivian to respect their laws.
