Out of all the candidates who contested for the Parliamentary Election 2019, 39 did not submit their financial statements by the deadline, according to the Elections Commission of the Maldives.

Chairman of the commission, Ahmed Shareef noted that out of the 386 candidates, 347 submitted their documents by 12:00am last night.

According to the electoral regulations, failure to abide by the laws regarding to the election may result in a jail term of six months to two years or a fine between MVR 6,000 and MVR 24,000.

386 candidates contested at the parliamentary elections. All candidates are required to submit financial statements to the EC 21 days after the election.

EC is set to decide on a course of action against those who did not submit the documents on Monday.
