Criminal Court has scheduled a hearing regarding former President Abdulla Yameen’s money laundering case for Thursday.

The hearing scheduled for the case is the very first hearing of the case. The hearing will focus on opening statements from both sides and working on a defense on the side of President Yameen.

President Yameen is being charged with money laundering, in relation to the MVR 1.4 corruption scandal which rocked his presidency. According to the charges pressed against him, he had received and successfully laundered USD 1 million from the embezzled money from MMPRC.

He was ordered to be remanded till end of trial in case he tampered with evidence related to the case on February 18th. However, the criminal court’s verdict was short lived as the High Court ruled in favor of his appeal, freeing him on May 28th.
