President of the Commission Investigating Deaths and Disappearances, Husnu Suood, has said that the perpetrators behind the death of religious scholar and MP, Dr. Afrashim, journalist Ahmed Rilwan and blogger Yaamin Rasheed has been identified.

Speaking on Raajje TV’s “Falasurukhee” last night, Suood said that the motive behind the crimes have been identified that identification is the biggest victory during the course of the investigation. He said that all the details of the Commission work would be included in their final report.

Suood said that an adequate effort was not put in to the initial investigation and before the Commission report is released, they want to take action and bring the perpetrators to justice. And if the guilty are to be persecuted in light of the Commission report, the Bill empowering the Commissions has to be made into law at the parliament.

“Otherwise, we can release a simple report and be done. I don’t think that should be the purpose of this (investigation). Suood said.

He said that the purpose of the investigation is to arrest the people behind the crimes and bring them to justice but that can only be done if the Commission is made into a criminal investigative body accepted by the constitution. And if the Commission report is released before that happens, the perpetrators get an opportunity to hide the evidence.
