Former Presidents of the Maldives have strongly condemned the attack on Sri Lanka, which had rattled the country and caused the death of hundreds across the island nation.
Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom had described the bomb blasts in neighboring Sri Lanka as a terrorist attack, and strongly condemned the attack on behalf of MRM as well. In addition to this, Former President Mohamed Nasheed had also condemned the attacks and added that such acts of violence could not be accepted from any organization.
Former President Mohamed Waheed had also described the attacks – three of which were carried out at churches, as an act of terrorism and strongly condemned the cowardly act. Former President Abdulla Yameen, in a tweet, noted that the attack on Sri Lanka has rattled the entire world and had condemned the act while calling it a cowardly move as well.
The Maldivian government had also strongly condemned the attack, with the Foreign Ministry set to send a special envoy to the country sometime on Sunday night.
Death toll in the multiple bomb blasts is said to be closing in at 200 at the time of press.
