MNDF Southern Area Command has provided medical assistance to a Maltese cargo ship traveling from Vietnam to South Africa by transporting an ill person on board to Hithadhoo, Addu City.

Information on the situation regarding the vessel MV Jade D was delivered to the MNDF Coastguard Maritime Rescue Coordination Center on 16 April.

Following the authorization from the relevant national institutes, the vessel came into two nautical miles south of Hithadhoo and the MNDF Southern Area was mobilized to the position and transported the ill person, a 49-year-old Philippine national, on a Fast Interception Craft.

The man was taken to Hithadhoo for fast treatment after the man exhibited chest pains and difficulty breathing.
