Former journalist and Gan MP Elect, Mohamed Wisaam has said that all members of Broadcasting Commission needs to be removed from their position.
Wisaam said this after Maldives jumped 22 spots on the World Press Freedom Index. In a tweet sent out on Friday, he expressed how joyful a news it was to know that the island nation had moved up on the index for the first time since 2013.
He added that broadcom was the greatest threat to such happiness, and highlighted that all members of the commission need to be removed in order to ensure freedom of press in the Maldives.
In 2013, Maldives was ranked 103 on the index and continued to fall since former President Abdulla Yameen assumed office.
With 180 countries, Maldives is currently at 98 on the index, which makes it the second among SAARC countries.
