The Attorney General has recommended that Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer should not attend the meeting scheduled to present the state budget and supplementary budget for 2023.

The notice for the motion to remove Speaker Mohamed Nasheed expired two days ago but the Parliament has been unable to debate on the motion, owing to the Deputy Speaker calling in sick.

The parliament secretariat has scheduled the presentation of the supplementary budget and the budget for the next fiscal year.

President's Office spokesman Miuvan Mohamed told 'One' that the AG advised Amir not to come to today's sitting and present the budget because the parliament rules state that Nasheed's removal resolution cannot be taken forward and no further business of the parliament can be done.

As per the constitution, the finance minister should present the state budget for that year to parliament by November 1 every year at the earliest.
