The PPM members will not have to leave the party and join another party or PNC, PPM President Abdulla Yameen has said.

Yameen, who was serving an 11-year jail sentence in connection with the MMPRC scam, was transferred to house arrest and allowed to go outside for medical treatment this week. He had visited PPM Office last night, where he met with the members of the party.

The meeting was attended by Yameen’s lawyer, Dr. Mohammed Jameel Ahmed.

On behalf of Yameen, Jameel noted that hard work needs to be done for the upcoming parliamentary election. He had further echoed Yameen's sentiments of PPM members not having to join another party, including PNC, since both parties are of the same ideology.

While Yameen has said this, several members of PPM and other parties have been signing to PNC after Dr. Mohamed Muizzu won the Presidential Election on a PNC ticket,

Muizzu's running mate, Vice President-elect Hussain Mohammed Lateef, has also signed up for the PNC after serving as a PPM senator. He was recently elected as the PNC Vice President.
