The Parliamentary Group (PG) of MDP has revealed that they are going to submit Nasheed's no-confidence motion to the Supreme Court as the motion is not moving forward in the Parliament.
The impeachment motion was scheduled to be heard today but the session was canceled due to the illness of Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla. The MDP has been saying that someone else should preside over the session.
According to the Constitution and the Rules of Procedure, the Deputy Speaker shall preside over the no-confidence motion against the Speaker of Parliament. However, none of it explains what to do next if one of them does not attend for any reason.
When asked by One Online about the next steps in the case, MDP PG Leader, Hithadoo North MP Mohammed Aslam said that various efforts have been made to move the case forward in parliament. Therefore, the matter will be submitted to the Supreme Court for a decision, he said.
Aslam did not say when the case would be filed.
