Justice Hussain Shahid has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the High Court and Justice Maryam Waheed as the Chief Justice of the Civil Court.

In a statement, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) said the appointments were made on Thursday.

Shahid holds a Master of Judicial Science and Shariah Policy and Bachelor's Degree in Shariah and Law from Kulliyathu Dhiraasathul Islamiyya. Shaheed was sworn in as a judge on November 26, 2014. Shahid was appointed as a judge of the High Court on July 24, 2018.

Shaheed has been given temporary charge of the High Court since the retirement of former Chief Justice of the High Court, Hatifh Hilmy, in November last year.

Maryam Waheed, who was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Civil Court, holds a Masters of Shariah from Villa College and a Bachelor of Law from The Maldives College of Higher Education.

She first started working as a Civil Court Judge on April 13, 2016. Prior to that, she served as a Magistrate of K. Gaafaru Magistrate Court and S. Hithadhoo Magistrate Court.
