MDP Parliamentary Group (PG) has stated that president-elect Dr Mohamed Muizzu's swearing-in before Nasheed is removed as the Speaker of the Parliament will be in violation of the constitution.

MDP's PG Group has approved a three-line whip on MDP's motion to remove President Mohamed Nasheed from the post of speaker of the parliament.

Speaking at a press conference held by MDP's PG group in the parliament's parking area, party's PG leader and Hithadhoo North MP Mohamed Aslam said that the swearing-in ceremony of the president-elect will be held by the parliament and he did not believe that the ceremony could be held without taking a vote of no confidence against Nasheed.

"We have decided that if President-elect is sworn in on 17 November without removing Nasheed as Speaker, we will not accept the new president" Aslam said, referring to the discussion held by the PG today.

Aslam said the PG would cooperate with the swearing-in ceremony only after Nasheed's vote of confidence is taken, adding that the parliament should function in accordance with the rules of the house and Nasheed would not be allowed to run the parliament illegally.

Speaking at a press conference, Kinbidhoo MP Mohamed Nashiz said that MDP's approval will not be given to the cabinet sent after Dr. Muizzu's swearing-in.
