Maldives will not get involved in the conflict between India and China. President-elect Dr. Mohammed Muizzu has said.
In an interview with the BBC, the President-elect reiterated his call for the withdrawal of Indian troops from the Maldives.
Muizzu said the presence of Indian troops in the Maldives could put the country in danger at a time of tension in the Himalayan border area between India and China.
"Maldives is a very small country that can get involved in these pressures. We will not get involved in this (India-China conflict)," Muizzu said.
Muizzu has said he will review the shallow agreements signed by the previous government with India. Muizzu added that he would pursue a "pro-Maldives" policy.
