The Democrats have decided to contest for all the constituencies at the upcoming Parliamentary Elections in 2024.

The Democrats decided to contest all the seats in the parliament at the party's interim council meeting held today.

The resolution was moved by council member and former MDP vice-president Mohammed Shifaz.

The council unanimously passed the resolution advocating for the constitutional amendment proposed byHulhudhoo MP Ilyas Labib to reduce the number of constituencies to 76 and pledging to contest the 93 constituencies announced by the Election Commission if the amendment is not passed.

Hassan said the upcoming parliamentary elections are the best time to debate and decide on the reduction of the number of MPs, but he is concerned that some MDP MPs do not support it.

"What we are concerned about is that some other political parties are following the Election Commission's advocacy of a growing parliament for every 5,000 people in the population," Hassan said.
