Maldives has called on the international community to bring an immediate stop to the Israeli attacks on the people of Palestine.
Maldives made the call in a statement to the Economic and Financial Affairs Committee (Second Committee) of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York yesterday. The statement was delivered by Maldivian Bilateral Secretary, Dr. Hala Hameed.
Maldives' statement called for an immediate halt to the attacks and an end to attacks on civilians and infrastructure in Gaza. It also said that Israel’s order to 1.2 million people living in northern Gaza to move to southern Gaza within 24 hours and millions to leave their homes in just six hours violated international and human rights law.
The Maldives has also called on Israel to withdraw the order, as well as calling for the acceleration of aid to Gaza and the opening of closed aid routes as soon as possible.
The statement said Maldives unconditionally supports the Palestinian people in their efforts to ensure their rights, including the establishment of a separate state.
A permanent and sustainable solution can only be achieved through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the former 1967 borders, Maldives said in a statement.
