President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said China's Belt and Road Initiative will play an important role in the country's development.

In an interview with China's State-run Xinhua newspaper, Dr. Muizzu said china has developed the main airport, Velana International Airport (VIA), as part of china's belt and road initiative. He that Sinamale' Bridgewas also built with Chinese assistance.

"I believe that China is crucial to such projects in the country. It is important for the Maldives and the development of the region to undertake such projects with the help of China and other countries," Dr. Muizzu said.

Dr. Muizzu said that Maldivians are benefiting from the projects under China's Belt and Road Initiative, adding that the Belt and Road Initiative will play an important role in the development of the Maldives in the future.

He said that Maldivians have benefited immensely from the belt and road initiative. Dr. Muizzu said that he would continue to work for the development of the Maldives by maintaining close relations with China during his tenure.
