Former Prosecutor General and lawyer Ahmed Muizzu has said he intends to contest next year's parliamentary elections.

Muizzu, who has done many services to the state, said in a post on X today that he intends to contest for the Male' constituency. He did not say which constituency he was contesting.

Muizzu was the MP for Haa Alif Atoll during the Special Assembly of the Parliament. He was also a member of the Bar Council and Chief Justice of the Criminal Court.

The Election Commission (EC) has not yet announced the date of the parliamentary elections. However, the commission's chairman Fuad Taufeeq told One Online today that the parliamentary elections will be held at the end of April.

The Election Commission has decided to add six seats to the new parliament. That’s two more seats for the city. That brings the total number of seats in the city to 17.
