President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that there are many cases of corruption within the government, adding that he will investigate these cases after taking office.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, President-elect Muizzu said there are corruption and theft cases related to this government and the state has lost billions during the pandemic alone.

"There are too many such cases in this government. Some MDP MPs are also saying that this government has embezzled more public funds than previous governments," Muizzu said.

The President-elect said his government would be a clean government free from theft and would not hide anything. He further said that efforts should be made with sincere intentions to recover the money lost to the state.

Asked whether he believed in the independence of the judiciary, the President-elect said the judiciary was not independent and the JSC would remove politicians and amend the laws to free the judiciary.

President-elect Muizzu further said that his government's aim is to develop the country in friendship with all countries that respect the Maldives.
