A man has been arrested in connection with the attack on Maradhoo MP Ibrahim Shareef.
Shareef was attacked on Saturday while he was in Manhattan during the second round of voting, leaving him with a black eye and other visible injuries on his nose as well.
One has confirmed that the police today arrested a 24-year-old local man in connection with the case, but police has not made a statement.
In addition to Shareef, feydhoo MP Mohamed Nihad was also attacked by a mob on the same day. No arrests have been made yet in that case.
In a statement issued on the same day, the police said, "in view of the fact that the activities of criminal groups are increasing in the city on the same day, necessary measures are being taken, election safety measures are being strengthened and necessary efforts are being made to ensure the safety and security of the public and will investigate these cases as serious cases."
