President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated he will facilitate transfer of power to president-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to take oath of office on November 11

Speaking at his first press conference since his defeat in the presidential election last Saturday, the President said November 11 was the day of change of governments in Maldivian history.

"I am working on it. If there is no legal obstacle, it will be transferred on November 11. We will continue to see if there is a legal obstacle. Otherwise, the term will expire and it will be transferred on November 17,” he said.

He further added that resignations by him and Vice President Faisal Naseem would not ensure that the government is changed by November 11. He noted that if such a thing happens, the Speaker of Parliament would become the President by default.

However, he assured that he would do everything possible to ensure the transfer of government on November 11.
