President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has extended congratulations to President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

Dr. Muizzu won the elections with 53 percent majority with 126,850 votes to President Solih's 108,696 votes at 46 percent.

In his Tweet congratulating Dr. Muizzu, President Solih said the public displayed a great sense of democracy, extending his gratitude to them. He also thanked the coalition member Adaalat party and all those who voted for him.

Speaking to the media following his victory, Dr. Muizzu called for former president Yameen Abdul Gayoom to be transferred home.
