The Democrats' Chairperson, Hassan Latheef has decided to run for the Presidency of The Democrats, led by Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.
"I have decided to run for the presidency of The Democrats. I would like to ask for the support and assistance of all Democrats," Latheef tweeted yesterday.
The Democrats' internal elections will be held on December 2, the party's interim council has decided. Following the decision, the opportunity to contest the election has been opened.
While Hassan Latheef said yesterday that he would contest for the post of Party President, Former STO Managing Director Hussain Amr, who contested the presidential election as the running mate for The Democrats, has also expressed his interest in contesting the post.
Both have announced their intention to run for the party's presidential post. Those who want to run for the party's vice president post are also expressing interest.
Aishat Alika Adnan, former Senior Policy Director of the Home Ministry, will contest for the post of Vice President (Women) of the party.
