President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met with the Speaker of Parliament and former MDP President Mohamed Nasheed at the President's Office today.
President Nasheed arrived at the President's Office today, in a parliamentary motorcade. He was welcomed by the President's Office.
The meeting between President Solih and President Nasheed comes after the two have not met for many days. The two are meeting five days before the presidential election.
While President Solih and Nasheed are meeting today, the two had a phone conversation last week. The two discussed holding a referendum to change the system of governance in the country. The President later noted that the two are always in different political ideologies and that the conversation was based on that.
The President came second in the first round of the presidential election held on the 9th of this month. That's 39 percent of the voting population. The first place went to the PNC presidential candidate. Mohammed Muizzu, who got 46 percent. Nasheed's party candidate Ilyas Labib came third with seven percent.
They will not support any candidate in the second round of the presidential election scheduled for the 30th of this month. The decision was taken after MDP and PPM/PNC failed to agree on The Democrats' proposals within the deadline. MDP was offered an agreement to hold a referendum on the 28th of this month.
