Former MP Riyaz Rashid has decided to support the MDP candidate in the second round of the presidential election.
He made the announcement in a tweet yesterday with a photo of himself with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
“I have decided to support Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the incumbent President who has worked with me for many reforms in the Special Assembly and the Parliament, in the second round of this presidential election,” Riyaz tweeted.
While Riyaz who is a senior member of JP has decided to support President Solih, JP has decided not to back any candidate in the election face-off after their candidate Qasim Ibrahim suffered a major loss in the first round.
While JP has officially decided not to back a candidate, Qasim had noted that the members are free to support who they wish.
