More than 47,000 applications submitted by re-registration deadline

More than 47,000 applications have been submitted for the second round of the presidential election on the 30th of this month, the Election Commission (EC) said.

The Election Commission opened re-registration for the second round of the election at 3 pm last Friday. The deadline expired at 4 pm yesterday.

The Election Commission said in a statement today that more than 19,000 applications have been processed out of more than 47,000 applications submitted online, at its counters and through provincial focal points within three days. More than 27,000 forms are in the process of being validated.

The Election Commission said the re-registration list will be made public in the Government Gazette and a two-day period will be opened for complaints.

The Election Commission has advised the public not to spread untrue stories that could undermine the trust between the commission, the public and the candidates.
