A total of six areas will be reclaimed under the second phase of the development project. Area C and Area D have been completed. Sri Lanka's Capital Marine and Civil Construction Company (CMCC) has reclaimed 20 hectares of Area C and 9.6 hectares of Area D.

Urbanco said today that the remaining Areas A, B, E and F land reclamation and beach protection project has started on the 14th of this month. Area B was the first to be reclaimed.

The project, which is being carried out in collaboration with China Harbor Engineering Company Limited, will reclaim 39.6 hectares of land from Area B and 71.5 hectares from Area A. It is the largest area to be reclaimed under the second phase of the Thilafushi development project.

Area E will reclaim 5.9 hectares and Area F will reclaim 0.73 hectares.

Urbanco said the main purpose of the dredging and development of Thilafushi is to turn Thilafushi into an industrial hub in the area.

The project will revolutionize the industrial activities in the country and contribute to the development of the region. The adverse impacts on the society and the environment will be reduced significantly, he said.
