Maldives Reform Movement (MRM)'s leader and independent candidate for presidential elections, Faris Maumoon has apologised to the public for any and all grievances caused by former president Maumoon's 30-years of rule.
Faris has been receiving a lot of criticism on social media, with multiple stating they do not want a repetition of Maumoon's rule, and that they cannot vote for Faris because numerous people have been hurt because of Maumoon.
In a video released on X last night following the criticism, Faris said it was true that some people had been tortured and grieved during Maumoon's rule. He added that under his tenure, the victims would receive closure.
"I apologise to you for this," Faris said.
Faris had earlier told a media outlet that he did not believe Maumoon's rule was tyrannic. In a video released last night, Faris apologised for that as well.
