Elections Commission (EC) has revealed that a total of 8,499 people will observe the September 9 election, including local and foreign observers and monitors.

Speaking on the latest developments of the election, Habib revealed that 143 foreign observers have been accredited with the commission to observe the election. In addition to this, 22 international monitors have also been accredited with the commission.

Habib noted that a total of 165 foreign individuals will be observing the elections, who will begin arriving in the Maldives starting September 6th.

He further revealed that 8,334 individuals will act as observers, monitors and representatives locally. Of these, 3,034 have been accredited as observers, 3,810 as monitors and 1,490 as candidate representatives, he said.

Habib said the issuance of passes and instructions to these people is already underway.
