A Hindu priest, who was allegedly involved in spreading Hinduism in the name of spiritual healing classes at a hotel in Male' city, has been deported to the Maldives.
The man, identified as Ganesh Dubey, had advertised through his own social media accounts that he had come to the country for spiritual healing classes.
Police took the priest and another man into custody following public outcry.
They were handed over to immigration last night to take action as the case was in violation of the Country's Religious Harmony Act and immigration laws.
When contacted, an immigration official told One today that the priest and the man who was taken into police custody along with him were also deported today so that they could not travel to the Maldives any further.
According to sources, the person who was deported along with priest was an Indian living in the Maldives on a work visa who was involved in planning and running his classes.
