MDP's presidential candidate and Hulhudhoo MP Ilyas Labeeb's running mate Hussain Amr has said that prices of internal flights across Maldives will be reduced and TGST concessions will be given to resorts and guesthouses far from Male' city under The Democrats' tenure.
Speaking on PSM's running mate talk show last night, Amr said the tourism industry is the main source of the country's economy.
"The most important thing to expand tourism across the country is to bring down the cost of domestic flights, and to make sure that tourists are brought to the Maldives through the national airline. Even if there are resorts and guesthouses away from the capital, there should be some relaxation in TGST," Amr said.
Amr said that value should be added to all the fish in the Maldives so that the price of fish can be controlled in the Maldives. He added that transshipment ports should be built to increase the state's foreign currency, which is an important task that needs to be started, no matter how small, and plans have already been made for it.
A national shipping line has already been set up, which needs to be expanded further and operations should be carried out in other areas, he said.
He said digital banking should be introduced in the maldives and financial services should be made available abroad. The country needs to find a way to attract more money from abroad. Amr also stressed on the need to increase productivity to expand the country's economy so that it can be opened to those who want to manufacture goods commercially and make it possible for them to be sold abroad.
