Jumhooree Party (JP) leader and presidential candidate Qasim Ibrahim has pledged to connect Naifaru to Madivaru Airport, Felivaru and Gaa'erifaru through a bridge to Hinnavaru.
Qasim, who is currently in Madivaru on a campaign tour to Lh. Atoll for the upcoming presidential elections scheduled to be held on May 9, said that under his rule, a bridge would be connected from Naifaru to Hinnavaru, which would bring economic development to the region.
"If I had been able to go to Hinnavaru, I would have thought of connecting the Madivaru, Felivaru and Gaa'erifaru between Hinnavaru and Naifaru. There's a little ocean, about 300 metres of one lagoon is located between the other. It is 500 metres in the middle of the longest. Under my rule, I will merge it and connect it with a bridge," he said.
He said it would not take much effort to connect the islands and connecting them would allow the area to become a city. Pointing out that the islands of Lh. Atoll are made up of large lagoons, he said that if the island has to be reclaimed, it can also be done.
Connecting Naifaru with Hinnavaru was president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's 2018 presidential pledge, but the work is yet to begin.
