Opposition PNC/PPM candidate Dr. Mohamed Muiz has pledge to develop an airport in R. Fainu and introduce 10 new resorts in the atoll.
Speaking to supporters of R. Inguraidhoo during his campaign tour, Dr. Muiz said, "our economic policy will be to introduce at least 10 new resorts in this atoll."
Dr. Muiz said that he would continue to build an airport in R. Fainu. Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom had thought of building an airport in the island and had started work on it. He said that the airport will be developed in terms of cost by acquiring a small amount of land to increase the space.
This will make it easier for all resorts and newly opened resorts in the region, create hundreds of jobs, empower many young people and provide opportunities to many women, he said.
President Solih's administration has decided not to go ahead with the project despite the government's decision to build an airport in Fainu.
"The road construction project in Inguraidhoo, the non-signed project to build a health center, the port expansion project, and the expansion of the port - we will carry forward for you at the beginning of the term," Dr. Muiz said
Noting that housing is the most important policy, Dr. Muiz said that the maximum amount of space available to the extent of land expansion will be added to each island in the atoll.
"At the same time, the existing natural land will have the vacant space to be created at the time of the construction of the land use plan, so housing projects should be carried out to build houses in this island as well," he said
