Opposition candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has refuted rumors that a fee will be imposed on passengers using the Sinamale' Bridge during a PPM/PNC government.
Local media reports have been claiming that a fee will be imposed on all those who wish to use the bridge during a government of PPM/PNC.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Muizzu stated that no such decision has been made and that all talks of such are baseless rumors. He further described spreading such rumors as an uncivilized act.
While reports of imposing a fee are making the rounds, there were talks of placing electronic toll booths on the bridge while Muizzu was the Minister of Housing during the last PPM government.
MVR 62 million was also included int he budget of 2018 to establish a toll booth system for the bridge, while MVR 56 million was set in the budget for the same the subsequent year.
